DUPR nights are nights that we only allow DUPR rated match play. When you check-in a DUPR match will be created for you. Outcome of that match/matches will be recorded with DUPR by Dinker Shop. This will add/subtract from your over all DUPR score. Matches played and recorded in a Dinker Shop Club match are weighted the same as tournament play!
You must be a registered DUPR member and can register for free at DUPR - Rating algorithm engineered for pickleball players (mydupr.com) Once registered search clubs for Dinker Shop.
Ready to start tracking your overall pickleball level with an official rating? Use the link below to reserve a spot in one of the upcoming DUPR nights.
Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating is the most accurate and only global rating system in Pickleball. All players, regardless of their age, gender, location, or skill, are rated on the same scale between 2.0-8.0 based on their match results.
Tournament, club, and league matches impact your rating more than self-posted scores. For club, league, and tournament matches, the rating points “up for grabs” each match is 0.10. For rec play it is half as much at 0.05, but that is for each game. For example, if you are a huge underdog in a tournament match and win, the most you could move up is 0.10.
We receive results from our partners which include clubs, associations, tournament organizers, federations, other software and our very own users (self-posted scores).
Ratings will update as soon as your opponent validates a user submitted match or a club director enters scores themselves. We also receive results from third party sources and when those matches are added to the system your rating will be updated.
When a player creates their account, our system gives them the rating “NR” (No Rating). Think of this as a placeholder, a starting point as we begin to gather data about their performance. Once a player logs their first match, whether it's a singles or doubles game, it sets in motion a carefully designed mechanism to create their initial rating for that match type.
From the moment a player plays their first match, a timer kicks into action. The essence of this timer is twofold:
Every match a player plays in the 7 day span contributes points towards shedding their "NR" status. However, not all matches are weighed equally–some matches provide more information than others based on the rating status of the opponents! The value of a match is determined based on the familiarity of the players involved. Here's the rundown:
The target? Accumulate 3 points. Once you do, you’ll be initialized with a rating! If you can’t manage to get to 3 points, that’s okay, we’ll give you our best guess 7 days after your first match is entered, but the more you play the better our guess will be for you and the quicker your rating will hone in on the truth.
So go ahead, play that extra match on the court today. It’s for a good cause!
Once our system identifies its time, it meticulously analyzes all the matches the player has been a part of, understanding the dynamics and performance levels. Using sophisticated algorithms analyzing the network effect of the pickleball community, it estimates the most accurate representation of a player's skill based on the information we have.
You might wonder, "What about the ratings of the other players?" We ensure the sanctity of the existing ratings. If a match involves an unknown player, it doesn't affect the ratings of the others involved. This ensures fairness across the board and addresses an important issue raised by the community. Not only will new players be more accurately rated once they are rated, but existing players on the app can bring new players into the game without any worry over their existing rating!
With the number crunching complete, the player sheds their "NR" and steps into the DUPR world with their new rating, ready to climb up the ranks, challenge peers and watch their rating change in real-time match by match.
